1976 Transporter Bridge February 1976

February 1976 and another foggy winters day in Pill. The pictures show the Transporter bridge in action, taken from the Pill side. Photography for that day had to be abandoned soon after these were taken as the smoke from the factories and the fog rolling in off the channel made it impossible to see more than a few yards. By contrast the night shots, taken in Capel Crescent, just opposite Lewis Street, reflect a crisp clear frosty night, when the moon appeared as bright as the street lamps.

Dark gloomy long streets of terraced houses - but very safe!

These unusual high level pictures of South Pill, were taken from the Transporter Bridge in the very early 1980s. They show the River and Docks and also the Adi, the much lamented adventure playground which stood on the site of Wolseley Street.
