JAZZ BANDS PILL
One of the highlights of the Pill festival calendar was the Jazz band competition. Held in the spring it usually rained but did not dampen the enthusiasm of the Pill community or the numerous jazz bands that came from all areas of South Wales. Nowadays these sights are a rarity as marching bands of all types have become a precious commodity. Youth organisations, no longer appeal to the young persons of today, nor are there the dedicated volunteers who worked so tirelessly to provide skills, pleasure and meaningful experience to so many young lives. Pill in the 1970s saw no shortage of such folk. Amongst these images you will see the ubiquitious Mrs Rene Metcalfe. To be found anywhere that a helping hand was needed. Rene was just one of many fine Pill people who have over the years given their all for the benefit of their community.
